Why did the English teacher wear sunglasses?
Because the students were so bright! Get ready to shine in these language arts enrichment classes!
Graphic Novels
Ms. Taylor
Be a REBEL- read a book! Graphic novels are one of the world’s great storytelling media: They capture your attention through a visual world. This increases the desire to keep reading and helps promote success. Graphic novels are more than the sum of their parts- they are multimodal (meaning multiple modes of expression are used) and support a student’s ability to visualize and understand complicated ideas. Students will read and explore how graphic novels work, focusing on the fundamentals of visual storytelling while analyzing character development and plot. Through graphic novels, students can develop inference and literacy skills that apply when interacting with photos, paintings, and other people. Enjoy the world of graphic novels AND become a better reader!
Creative Writing:
World Building
Mr. Quinn
What does it take to create another world? Middle Earth, the Marvel Universe, the Nine Norse Worlds, Panem, the Scythedom. If you like superheroes and myths, dragons and magicians, decayed dystopian worlds, or futuristic sci-fi worlds, then this camp is for you. Get ready to work with other campers as you build a world from nothing. Craft the rules and laws, magic and myths, and even the societies of your world. Create your characters: human or beast, android or alien, savior or scoundrel. Then place your characters into your world and see what happens! After working with a group to craft the details of their world, each camper will give life to their creation in their own unique way. This may be through writing a story, creating a language, drawing characters, charting a map, writing letters and notes from characters, or some other unforeseen way. Get ready for adventure!
Creative Writing: Genre Study
Ms. Abdallah
Creative Writing Class is open to all students wanting a fun opportunity to explore their “voice” with the written word! Through diverse activities, reflections, personal projects, students will experiment with a variety of genres (ex: memoir, short fiction, fun prompts, poetry, etc.) to build up their creative writing portfolios.
