Graphic Novels
Ms. Taylor
Dive into the world of graphic novels and receive a free copy of Neil Gaiman's "The Graveyard Book" when you sign up for this class! Graphic novels are one of the world’s great storytelling media that captures your attention through a visual world. Join us as we explore the fundamentals of visual storytelling, character development and plot analysis through Gaiman's highly engaging story. Students will strengthen their inference and literacy skills as we interpret photos, paintings, and everyday interactions in graphic novel form. Enjoy the world of graphic novels AND become a better reader with us! Class limited to 20 students.
Creative Writing

Creative Writing Class is open to all students wanting a fun opportunity to explore their “voice” with the written word! Through diverse activities, reflections, personal projects, students will experiment with a variety of genres (ex: memoir, short fiction, fun prompts, poetry, etc.) to build up their creative writing portfolios.
Book Study

Dive deep into the intricacies of human nature with our dystopian book study course centered around Suzanne Collins' novel, "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes." Set in the dystopian world of Panem, this prequel to the widely acclaimed Hunger Games trilogy offers a captivating exploration of power, morality, and the consequences of one's choices. Throughout this course, participants will embark on a thought-provoking journey, dissecting the complex characters, themes, author's craft, and ethical dilemmas presented in the novel. Whether you're a fan of the Hunger Games series or a newcomer to dystopian universes, this book study course offers an enriching experience for readers of all backgrounds. Algebra 1: Get ready!

Designed for students entering 9th grade to review critical skills from pre-algebra and preview Algebra I material for the coming academic year. Students will explore math concepts through a variety of technology and learning styles. They will use online simulations, interactive apps, and graphing calculators to visualize and manipulate algebraic concepts. Students will engage in group discussions, problem-solving activities, and games to strengthen their understanding of algebraic concepts and improve their critical thinking skills.
Geometry: Get ready!

Designed for students entering 10th grade to review critical skills from Algebra 1 and preview Geometry material for the coming academic year. Students will utilize digital tools and virtual manipulatives to explore geometric concepts in dynamic and visual ways. Additionally, they will participate in group discussions, problem-solving tasks, and games to deepen their understanding of geometric principlaes and enhance their spatial reasoning abilities in meaingful and engaging ways.
Algebra 2: Get ready!

Elevate your math skills this summer with our engaging Algebra 2 Enrichment course! This program is designed for rising 11th grade students to solidify their understanding of key Algebra 1 and Geometry concepts, while also introducing early Algebra 2 topics. Throughout this course, students will engage in a variety of interactive lessons. Whether you're looking to refresh foundational math knowledge or get a head start on Algebra 2, this course provides the perfect blend of review and preview to boost your confidence and prepare you for the upcoming school year.
Financial Decisions
Mr. Ward
With real-world examples from everyday advertisements, offers, and deals, you'll explore how to maximize your money in daily life. Topics include budgeting, understanding credit, navigating loans, shopping for cars, insurance basics, and avoiding scams. This online course is designed to be practical, engaging, and valuable, offering you the skills everyone needs to manage money wisely.
This course does not satisfy the financial literacy graduation requirement, but students will begin working on required graduation modules under teacher guidance.

Yes!
Can students who attend other high schools attend?
No, the courses are funded by grants which restrict spending to BCIT students.
How long is each class?
1 hour and 30 minutes
Can I sign up for both math and language arts classes?
Yes. The English classes are on Monday's and Wednesday's and the math classes are on Tuesday's and Thursday's. You may sign up for one or both.
What materials do I need to participate virtually?
You will need internet connection and a computer with a camera. If you would like to participate and do not have access to one or both of these, please reach out to Jessica Rista: jrista@burlcoschools.org for assistance.
Will students earn credit for failed math or English classes?
No, these classes are not for credit. The classes are enrichment opportunities to prepare students for the upcoming school year.
Are students required to attend these classes?
No. These classes are enrichment opportunities that are optional for all students.
Do you offer SAT Prep over the summer?
Yes. Please see your BCIT campus website, then choose Student Life, then SAT Prep by Kaplan.
I cannot attend the summer enrichment classes due to scheduling conflicts. Are there any other options?
